Dr Neerav Goyal

Dr Neerav Goyal is a Senior Consultant in the Department of Liver Transplant and Surgical Gastroenterology at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Delhi, with over 25 years of experience. Since August 2007, he has worked alongside Dr Subhash Gupta, performing complex hepatobiliary, pancreatic and gastrointestinal surgeries as part of a unit that conducts 6 to 8 liver transplants every week, with outcomes comparable to the best centres in the world. He has independently performed over 1,800 liver transplants.

He completed his MBBS at KG Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore, followed by a DNB in Surgery at St Stephen's Hospital, New Delhi, and diplomas in General Surgery and Surgical Gastroenterology. He trained as Senior Resident in Surgical Gastroenterology at Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, New Delhi, one of India's leading centres for excellence in biliary tract surgery.

Dr Goyal's expertise spans living donor and deceased donor liver transplantation, laparoscopic and robotic GI and HPB surgery, laparoscopic and robotic donor hepatectomy, and the treatment of chronic liver disease, hepatitis and jaundice. He has performed more than 500 cadaver liver transplants and 220 paediatric liver transplants over his career, and is credited with performing the first right lobe liver transplant and the first adult cadaveric liver transplant in India. His unit has also actively promoted the cadaveric organ donation programme in India.

Earlier in his career, he served as Head and Senior Consultant of Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery at Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, and as Consultant in Liver Transplant and GI Surgery at St. Stephen's Hospital, New Delhi. He has received a Gold Medal in Ophthalmology (Bangalore University, 1995) and a Gold Medal for Best Paper Publication at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, in 2007. He has published extensively on liver transplantation and contributes to national and international medical conferences.
